If you have been RVing for any length of time, you know that your RV doesn’t come standard with everything you need. The RV life brings challenges you learn to work through, and over years of travel you acquire tools and accessories that help you master life on the road. Whether you’re a veteran or just bought your first RV, we believe these are the best RV accessories for any camper.
Which RV Accessories Do You Need?
There is no complete list of all accessories needed, as not all RVs, and not all campers, are the same. And unfortunately, we don’t always know what we need until we need it. In this article, we hope you’ll see something new or helpful to make your travels more safe and enjoyable!
RV Accessories for the Kitchen
Instant Pot – Take cooking to the next level with this must-have RV kitchen accessory. Instant Pots are great for replacing your slow cooker. They produce meals quickly and don’t take up too much counter or storage space. You’ll also easily find plenty of recipes, tips, and tricks online to get the most out of your Instant Pot.
Double Bar for Fridge or Cupboard – When you are rolling on the road in your RV, sometimes your food in the kitchen is as well. With a double bar, you can block your food from spilling out when it falls over during your travels. These amazing camper accessories are light and install in seconds, and you won’t be victim to falling food!
Cast Iron Skillet – This simple, yet age-old cooking accessory is perfect for both your home and RV. They are strong and can cook food in the oven, on the stove, or even on the campfire. Just like the Instant Pot, there are an endless number of recipes and cooking hacks to help you make the most of your cast iron skillet.
Stainless Steel Coffee Percolator – Percolators are great little coffee makers that don’t take up much space, are easy to use, and can be used on a fire when there is no electricity. With your stainless steel percolator, you’ll have your cup of joe wherever you go!
RV Accessories for the Bathroom
Toilet Treatment – Whether it comes in tablets or liquid form, flushable toilet treatments can help with everything from odors to assisting the breakdown of waste and tissue paper.
RV Toilet Paper – Unless you don’t plan to flush your toilet paper, RV toilet paper is a must-have RV accessory. To flush regular toilet paper risks your septic system getting clogged and sensors throwing false readings.
Good Shower Head – Not all RVs come equipped with a great shower head. There are many good options out there including detachable handhelds from OxyGenics. These nifty shower heads can turn up the pressure while saving water, which is important with limited tank capacities.
RV Accessories for Camping
Propane Fire Pit – Have a campfire anytime and at any campsite. Campgrounds with “no burn” policies usually will allow for propane fire pits to be used.
Pop-up Gazebo – Also referred to as “clam tents,” these provide both shade from the sun and protection from bugs. This RV accessory is a must have for those who like to enjoy their meals outside or just want to lounge around without insects buzzing in your ears.
Motion Security Lights – These easy to install lights can be affixed almost anywhere outside your RV and come in handy when you need to take the dog out to the bathroom or grab something outside quickly. Some of these motion lights are solar powered, which makes them extra convenient and a great energy saver.
Boot Scrubber – Whether you’re hiking the trails or just walking the campground on a rainy day, this RV accessory will help keep the mess outside. Doormats are great too but are limited in their reach. And who wants muddy footprints inside?
General Purpose Camper Accessories
Emergency Roadside Kit – It’s always a good idea to keep an emergency breakdown kit. Some come prepackaged, but what you’ll want to include are things like an air compressor, road reflectors, flashlights, head lamps, tools for changing tires, wheel chocks, a first aid kit, blankets, extra fuses, a battery jump start box, gloves, and electrical tape. Breakdowns are inevitable, but having these items on hand may get you back on the road sooner than later.
Water Accessories – Good drinking water hoses are essential for your RV. This is something you don’t want to cheap out on. Poor quality hoses wear out quickly and leak around the connections, which can cost you valuable water and time. We recommend at least one 25-foot hose, but a second one is an excellent idea if one wears out or you need a little extra length to connect.
In addition, a water pressure regulator will ensure the spigot water won’t push through the hose at damaging speeds. For colder climates, you can even get heated hoses to eliminate the need to save it from freezing and becoming unusable. It also never hurts to buy an external water filter. These take out sediments and minerals that may gunk up your plumbing and give you healthier, better-tasting water.
Septic Accessories – This may be one of the most unpopular things to do when RVing. However, it’s less mess if you have the right tools for the job. First, it’s always best to use gloves. Disposable is recommended because they are more sanitary. A hose support for your septic hose will assist in the flow of sewer water from out of your black tank. In addition, having an RV sewer tank rinser with a clear pipe will give you a clear view of when your tank is flushed clean. Though unpleasant, these are essential RV accessories.
RV Tire Accessories – Taking care of your tires is important, as your home, and potentially your life, rides on them. Tire and wheel covers will protect your tires from sun and rain. Additionally, you may want to invest in leveling ramps or stabilizing jacks with pads. Keeping your RV in place and level makes camping all the better and protects absorption fridges from damage.
Portable Generator – An RV generator can keep you running when you’re in an area with an outage or boondocking off- grid. To determine your wattage, add up all the starting wattage requirements for every appliance that you’d need to connect and use that number. Generators can be powered by gas, diesel or propane fuel, so you can find the best option for you.
Surge Protector / EMS – Power surges happen, and the last thing you want is to risk every electrical device on your RV being damaged. The maintenance bill could be extremely steep, which is why it’s worth the investment in a good RV surge protector or EMS. These are a must-have RV accessory and can help keep you and your camper safe.
TV, Phone & Internet RV Accessories – If you are into cable TV, then a 25 to 50-foot coaxial cable will get you plugged in at many resorts. For those who depend on their phone signal for calls and internet, it would benefit you to purchase a signal booster like one from weBoost.
These handy little gadgets can increase your cell tower connection by 32 times. You can also purchase adapters which can send video from your phone to your TV like Lightning to Digital AV adapters. This means you can get the newest Netflix hit from your phone straight to your television!
